One Month "Foundation" Curriculum

Objective: This option will give you more time to more fully explore where you need to improve.  We can take a deeper look at what you need to do to improve in your language growth, and we'll have significantly more time to work one on one (or in groups) and figure out exactly how to improve.  Much more practice will be possible in the classes and direct feedback will give you more clarity and connection with what's working well, and what needs more attention.

Week 1: Speaking and Pronunciation

  • Day 1: Introduction to Speaking Skills

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Introduction to the course, ice-breaking activities, and initial speaking assessments.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Basic conversation phrases and daily expressions.

  • Day 2: Pronunciation Basics

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Focus on phonetics, common pronunciation pitfalls, and tongue position for accurate sounds.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Interactive pronunciation drills and phonetic exercises.

  • Day 3: Conversational Practice

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Role-playing exercises in everyday scenarios (e.g., ordering food, asking for directions).

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Group discussions on familiar topics to practice fluency and spontaneity.

  • Day 4: Speech Crafting

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Constructing short speeches on given topics.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Peer reviews of speeches with constructive feedback on delivery and language use.

  • Day 5: Review and Feedback

    • Full Day Session (4 hours): Comprehensive review of the week's learning, feedback session, and personalized tips for ongoing improvement in speaking.

Week 2: Listening Comprehension

  • Day 1: Introduction to Listening

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Listening strategies and skills overview.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Listening for general gist in conversations and dialogues.

  • Day 2: Listening Practice

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Exercises with audio recordings, focusing on specific details.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Listening to song lyrics and identifying colloquial expressions.

  • Day 3: Comprehension Expansion

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Using news broadcasts and podcasts for advanced listening.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Analyzing spoken content for argument and tone.

  • Day 4: Interactive Listening

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Interactive audio quizzes and problem-solving via spoken clues.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Listening to and interpreting audio from movies or TV shows.

  • Day 5: Listening Skills Review

    • Full Day Session (4 hours): Review of all listening materials, discussion of challenges, and strategy refinement for effective listening.

Week 3: Reading and Vocabulary

  • Day 1: Reading Skills Introduction

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Different reading techniques for academic and leisure purposes.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Vocabulary building through contextual reading.

  • Day 2: Focused Reading Practice

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Intensive reading of articles related to students’ interests.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Skimming and scanning practices in timed conditions.

  • Day 3: Deep Reading

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Analytical reading on more complex texts, such as editorials and academic essays.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Vocabulary exercises based on readings, including synonyms, antonyms, and phrase verbs.

  • Day 4: Applied Reading

Week 4: Writing Skills Development

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Grammar intensive focusing on tense usage and clause linking.

  • Day 2: Writing for Different Purposes

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Practice writing formal and informal emails.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Creating narratives and descriptive texts.

  • Day 3: Advanced Writing Techniques

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Techniques for argumentative and persuasive writing.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Editing and revising drafts with peer feedback.

  • Day 4: Project Work

    • Morning Session (2 hours): Compilation and finalization of a personal project, such as a blog post or essay.

    • Afternoon Session (2 hours): Workshop on referencing, plagiarism, and academic honesty.

  • Day 5: Writing Review and Future Planning

    • Full Day Session (4 hours): Review of all written work, comprehensive feedback, and personalized writing improvement plans.

Each week is structured to gradually build skills with cumulative exercises and assessments, providing a holistic approach to language learning that covers all critical aspects required for proficiency.
